Analyzer Provides Direct Determination of CHN in Filter Samples
Suited for the CE-440 CHN elemental analyzer, a new method is available for direct automated elemental analysis of material retained on glass or quartz microfiber filters used in water filtration and air monitoring applications. Direct determination of total CHN retained on a filter is more sensitive, precise and cost-effective than making measurements on pre- and post-filtered samples and calculating the difference. The optimized methodology requires minimum sample preparation and may be used for single samples or automated for higher throughput environments. The analyzer is a static combustion system with a unique horizontal furnace design that enables easy removal of filters and sample ash between each analysis. Thus one combustion tube can analyze 1000 samples without the need for removal and cleaning. In addition, analyzer can process filters up to 47 mm in diameter in one analytical cycle. Effectively eliminating troublesome residue build-up, the analyzer’s gas flow characteristics provide longer-term calibration stability as well as enhanced accuracy and precision for measured sample data.
