Phenyl-Phase HPLC Columns
Hypersil GOLD HPLC columns are now available in a phenyl phase, increasing the range of selectivities for reversed phase chromatography. In addition, the existing C8 and CN phases, which until now were available only with 3- and 5-µm particle sizes, are also available with a 1.9-µm size. The phenyl stationary phase contains a butyl linker for optimal alignment with aromatic molecules, allowing enhanced pi-pi interactions, increasing the aromatic molecules’ retention. The butyl linker also imparts moderate hydrophobicity, making the columns suitable for separating analyte mixtures with varying polarity and aromaticity. Because the phenyl columns are based on the same high purity silica, the peak shape and sensitivity delivered is achieved with the phenyl phase. The columns are available with 1.9-, 3- and 5-µm particle sizes.
