Application Note Demonstrates Use of Raman for Polymorphic Studies
A new application note focuses on the use of Raman spectroscopy for the analysis and identification of both organic and inorganic polymorphs. The determination of polymorphs is critical in the pharmaceutical industry, as the differences in the crystalline structure of polymorphs can affect the physicochemical parameters of the substance, such as solubility, dissolution rate, density, hardness and shape. These can impact pharmaceutical properties such as bioavailability, stability of a drug and formulation technology of the dosage form. Techniques such as X-ray powder diffraction (XRD), thermal analysis techniques such as DSC and TGA, IR and Raman have been used to analyze and differentiate polymorphic forms. This application note demonstrates why Raman is one of the most powerful and simple techniques for polymorphs analysis.
